Star Gambit Privacy Policy

Star Gambit ("the Game," "we," "us," or "our") is a free web-based game operated by Hex Theory LLC. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.

1. Who We Are

Star Gambit is operated by Hex Theory LLC.

2. Using Star Gambit Without an Account

Star Gambit is completely free to play and does not require an account. You can play without providing any personal information to us, and games played without an account are not associated with any identity we store.

3. Information We Collect

We only collect what's necessary for the Game to work. Specifically:

a. Account Information (optional)

If you choose to create an account, we collect either:

  • A username and password, or
    • Optionally, you can provide your email for password reset purposes.
  • Your atproto (AT Protocol) identity

This is used to identify you within the Game and to let you sign in.

b. Gameplay Records (for logged-in users only)

When you are signed in, games you play are recorded and publicly associated with your account identity. Games played while signed out are not attached to any stored identity.

c. Purchase Information

If you make a purchase, payment is processed by Stripe as our affiliate payment processor. Card and billing details are handled by Stripe under their own privacy terms; we receive only the transaction information necessary to fulfill and keep records of your purchase. d. Personal Settings

We store the preferences and settings you configure so the Game behaves the way you want it to across sessions.

e. Authentication Tokens

We generate and store short-lived tokens used to keep you signed in securely. These are temporary and are not used for tracking.

f. Bug Report Contact Information (optional)

If you report a bug, you may optionally provide contact information (such as an email address) so we can follow up. Providing this is always voluntary.

4. What We Do Not Do

  • We do not run advertising.
  • We do not use advertising trackers, analytics profiling, or third-party behavioral tracking.
  • We do not sell or rent your personal information.
  • We do not share your information with third parties except as necessary to operate the Game (for example, Stripe for payments).

5. How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above solely to:

  • Operate the Game and keep your account functional
  • Record and display your gameplay history publicly under your chosen identity (for logged-in games)
  • Process purchases
  • Remember your settings
  • Respond to bug reports and support requests

6. Public Information

If you are signed in while playing, your gameplay records are public and associated with your username or atproto identity. Please keep this in mind when choosing an identifier.

7. Data Retention

We retain account information, gameplay records, settings, and purchase records for as long as your account exists or as needed to provide the Game. Temporary authentication tokens expire automatically. Bug report contact information is retained only as long as needed to resolve the relevant issue.

You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting [email protected]. Note that public gameplay records tied to a deleted account will be disassociated or removed in accordance with your request, subject to any legal obligations we have to retain records (such as purchase records for tax purposes).

8. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including hashing stored passwords and using encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to minimize risk.

9. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact [email protected] or [email protected].

10. Children

Star Gambit is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the Effective Date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice through the Game.
